Miyajima and the shrine island
Miyajima is a village located on the sacred island of Itsukushima making birth and death forbidden.
The Itsukushima shrine has been listed by the UNESCO since 1996. In the past, visitors had to get through the four pillars of the Torii to reach the island.
On november 3rd, 2005 Miyajima was merged into the city of Hatsukaichi.
Called « the Japan Gate », this floating torii has been here since 1168 and filled many touristic guide books dealing with the japanese archipelago.
